EMDR Therapy

Have you ever experienced a flashback to a memory from a past traumatic event that left you shaken up? Ever felt like you know that something bad wasn’t your fault, but feel like you can’t get yourself to believe it? Felt like you Should be “over” something but the emotions still come on so strong every time you think about it?

About EMDR therapy

When you’re feeling triggered in the present, and you KNOW that a traumatic event from your past isn’t ACTUALLY happening again right now- but it FEELS that way in your body & your emotions- that’s what is caused by the memories that are improperly stored due to trauma. EMDR therapy is an evidence-based therapy that helps “unstick” the memories that were stored incorrectly from the time they happened.

EMDR is one of the most researched and empirically supported forms of therapy that has proven effective in treating trauma. But what actually is EMDR & how can it help YOU?

  • It can help DESENSITIZE triggers related to past traumatic memories. Triggers feel less intense, overwhelming and become manageable.
  • It allows us to REPROCESS traumatic memories that cause us distress
  • We can CHANGE negative beliefs about ourselves that came from past trauma and are keeping us stuck in the present

  • NO! You’re always in control- you can choose to stop or pause anytime. YOUR brain and nervous system guide the healing process- not the therapist.

ADHD treatments are generally effective in managing symptoms and improving functioning. Medications can significantly reduce hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention, while behavioral therapies can teach coping skills and strategies for managing daily challenges. The effectiveness of treatment can depend on the individual’s unique needs and their adherence to the treatment plan.

  • You might feel emotionally &/or physically drained- EMDR is like doing a good, but tough workout! Get some extra rest or self care that day.
  • That thing that used to be so triggering that I would panic every time- I was able to do it or deal with it now! I was still a little bit anxious, but it was totally manageable!
  • That memory from my past that would cause me to panic or shut down? If it comes up now, I’m OK. I see it in a different way. I know it was still a bad memory, but it doesn’t have that power over me anymore.
